Who is the Renegade Regiment?

The Renegade Regiment is the marching band of Union High School in Tulsa, OK. Under the direction of Dale Barnett for 22 years, along with other talented staff specializing in music (Jair Klarfeld), colorguard (Wes Cartwright), drill (Alan Mueggenborg), and percussion (Brian Jackson), the Drum Corps-style marching band has been awarded numerous honors. During my years of marching in RR from 1990-1992 seasons, we had approximately 220 members, and competed in state, regional, and national competitions with our three shows. We traveled within Oklahoma, as well as to Texas, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, West Virginia, and Washington, DC to perform and to compete. We won state competition 2 out of 3 years, placed 4th at regionals, 9th at nationals, and won competitions in Arlington, TX; Orlando, FL; and Denver, CO. Though we had fun playing at our football games, our aim was to excel in competition, to be "gummy bear perfect!"

Since 1980, The Renegade Regiment has been a Bands of America Grand National Finalist 7 times:

1992: Ben-Hur

This year, our show was based on music from the movie "Ben-Hur," written by Miklos Rozsa. The band represented Ben-Hur, while the colorguard represented the Romans.

This is the band's performance at the Oklahoma Bandmaster's Association State Competition at the University of Oklahoma, where we won 1st place with the highest score ever in the state competition to date.

1991: Swan Lake

This year, our show was based on the ballet "Swan Lake," by Peter Tchaikovsky. The band represented the white swan, while the colorguard represented the black swan.

Here is the band's performance at the Oklahoma Bandmaster's Association State Competition at Oklahoma State University. We won 2nd place that year, losing by only 0.05 points.

1990: Spartacus

This year, our show was based on the story and music from the ballet "Spartacus," with the original music written by Aram Khatchaturian. The band represented Spartacus, while the colorguard represented Phrygia.
